When Miracles Aren't Happening

Send us a text

What do you do when your prayers seem to hit the ceiling and the miracles you're desperately seeking don't materialize? Pastor Glenis Langlais tackles this profound question through the eyes of Habakkuk, a prophet who trusted God yet found himself troubled by divine silence.

Drawing from Habakkuk's raw, honest dialogue with God, Pastor Glenis reveals how our response to apparent divine silence determines our spiritual trajectory. "Trouble will make you bitter or it will make you better. It will drive you from God or it will drive you to God," she explains, showing how Habakkuk chose to climb higher rather than fall into despair. This powerful metaphor of ascending to a watchtower gives us a blueprint for handling those perplexing seasons when heaven seems silent.

The message weaves through Habakkuk's transformation from questioning to trusting, from trembling to rejoicing, offering listeners practical wisdom for their own faith journeys. Pastor Glenis reminds us that prayer isn't about manipulating God to act according to our timeline but "giving God permission to help as His love, power and wisdom directs." His closing declaration resonates with hope: "With or without miracles, Jesus wins. With or without miracles, Jesus is with us." For anyone navigating a season where God's intervention seems delayed, this message provides both comfort and courage to keep trusting in His perfect timing.

So now would be a good time to call a neighbor, call a friend and let them know that the New Day of Hope podcast is on and that they should join us and receive a blessing from the Lord. Just before we have the word for today, we have a song entitled Waymaker, and he's also a miracle worker. So after this lovely song, we'll be right back.

Speaker 1:

You are here Moving in our midst. I worship you, I worship you. You are here working in this place. I worship you, I worship you, I worship you. You are here moving in a niche. I worship you, I worship you. You are here Working in this place. I worship you, I worship you. Way, maker, miracle walker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are. Waymaker, miracle walker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who you are. You are here touching every heart. I worship you, I worship you. You are here healing every heart. I worship you, I worship you. You are here turning lives around.

Speaker 2:

I worship you I worship. You were blessed by that song and now we have the word for today, and the subject is what happens when there is no miracle? Think about that. What happens when there is no miracle? I pray you'll give your undivided attention to the word of God. So here is Pastor Glenis Langley to proclaim the Word of God.

Speaker 3:

Well, praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, I am really happy to be with you one more time. We are excited about proclaiming the message of hope, the message that can restore life and that can bring happiness to you, my friend. So for the next few minutes we would like to go to the book of Habakkuk, habakkuk, chapter 1, and let me read a few verses from that text for you. Commence reading from verse 1. It says the burden which Habakkuk, the prophet did see. O Lord, how long shall I cry and thou wilt not hear, even cry out, unto thee of violence and thou wilt not save. Why dost thou show me iniquity and cause me to behold grievances For spoiling and violence are before me, and there are they that raise up strife and contention. Therefore, the law is slack and judgment doth never go forth, for the wicked doth compass about the righteous. Therefore, wrong judgment proceedeth. I'd like to talk to you for a few minutes on the subject what happens when there are no miracles? What happens when there are no miracles?

Speaker 3:

The story is told of a lady who was driving from one side of the road to another. So as she came to the border, the policeman asked ma'am, do you have anything to declare no, sir, she said. But what's in this bottle? Holy water, she replied. The officer opened the bottle and sniffed it and declared this is wine. The woman cried out glory to God. A miracle has happened. He has done it again. Our Lord did turn water into wine not in this instant, here at the border, no, but he did turn water into wine. He performed many, many miracles. He calmed the raging storms of life, he cleansed the leper, he cast out demons, he healed the sick, he raised the dead. He is, in fact, the miracle worker.

Speaker 3:

A little girl came home from Sunday school and was asked what did the teacher talk about? Miracles? She answered what's a miracle, asked her mother, something that can't happen but does happen. She said we are reminded in the word how God's people were kept from harm in the burning fiery furnace. You know the story about Shadrach, meshach and Abednego, when the king made an image of himself and demanded that when they hear the song of the trumpet and that kind of stuff, that everybody would bow down and worship that image. But Shadrach, meshach and Abednego, who took a firm stand because of their faith, they decided they are not going to do that. They said that the God whom we serve, he will deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and that was even before they were cast into the furnace. That's real faith, my friends. That's real faith.

Speaker 3:

So the scripture tells us that they cast Shadrach, meshach and Abednego in the burning fiery furnace. But the next morning, when the king went, they went to the furnace and looking, and they declared that they saw four men. They cast out three, but they saw four and they said that the presence of one of them is like that of the son of the almighty God. Glory to God. Our God came in with them because of their faith and rescued them. Oh, we know about Daniel in the den of lions, how he was delivered from the lions In that den Because God was with him.

Speaker 3:

We can go on and tell you about more miracles when Paul and Silas were in prison and how there was an earthquake and the prison doors were open and what happened that time. That these are miracles. And we can go on and talk about the woman with the issue of blood and who went to Jesus when she heard that Jesus was in tongue and said boy, if I could only get there and touch the hem of his garment, I know I would be made well, and she went and touched the hem of his garment and she was healed because virtue came out of the master. So the question, the question is what happens when there are no miracles? Now, that idea puzzled Habakkuk. It puzzled him because he trusted the Lord, but yet he was troubled. Now don't sit there and blame Habakkuk and say, well, if he's trusting the Lord, why is he still troubled? Because it happens to the best of us. So he trusted the Lord, but he was still troubled. The danger he faced brought on doubts. The danger Habakkuk faced brought on distress and despair. But did this drive Habakkuk from God? No, but it drove him to God. You see, my friends, trouble will make you bitter or it will make you better. It will drive you from God or it will drive you to God. Trouble drove Habakkuk, not from God, but it drove him to God and made him a better person. Oh yes, man, after your troubles drive you to God and and you, you've seen how God is working on your behalf you ought to be a better person. You know the trials of life. They will come, but they come only to make us strong. Let's mark Habakkuk's predicament.

Speaker 3:

There was a silence that puzzled Habakkuk. He was suffering and he prayed, but God was still silent. That made him concerned. He was wondering was God deaf or was God at a distance that he cannot hear me? It puzzled him because he was wondering was God just harsh or was God just hard-hearted? It puzzled him because he was wondering was God uncaring or was God just hard-hearted? It puzzled him because he was wondering was God uncaring or was God untouched? If God could hear, he was saying was he helpless? If God was sympathetic, was he strengthless? The answer, my friends, is no, because our God is an all-powerful God. He can do all things. Habakkuk knew that.

Speaker 3:

So in the text he asked the question in verses 2 and 4. Oh Lord, how long shall I cry and you will not hear? How long shall I cry and you will not hear? How long shall I cry and you will not hear? I mean, this is a question that a lot of us are asking every day as we look at the situation around our world. Today we are asking the same question because we have prayed for this virus to go away, we have prayed for the health of our loved ones, for the healing of our friends, and the list goes on and on, but yet we see that sometimes things are not happening the way we would like it. So we have that tendency to say, like Habakkuk, how long shall I cry? And thou wilt not hear me.

Speaker 3:

There was a strangeness that puzzled Habakkuk. After asking God why you don't do something. Watch this, my friends. God answered hey, I am doing something, I am working on your behalf. God says I am doing something, I am working on your behalf. Didn't he say in his word that I will never leave you nor forsake you? So if God is telling us in his word that he will never leave us, nor will he ever forsake us, then we know for sure that God is working on our behalf, because every step that I take and every move that I make, god is with me. I will never leave you, he said, nor will I ever forsake you. So God is working on my behalf, he's working on your behalf, and we cannot see him, but we know that God is at work in our lives. My friends, we need to mark the perspective. After telling God his perplexity, habakkuk said watch this, I will climb my watchtower.

Speaker 3:

Sometimes it's good to step back or climb higher when you see that things are not happening the way you are expecting it to happen. Your blessings are not coming the way that you are expecting them to come. That's a good time, my friends, to step back. Step back and evaluate your own life, step back and evaluate your situation. See what is happening around you. Maybe that's why your miracles, our miracles, are not coming the way we would like them, because we are not taking a step back and see the salvation of the Lord. Or sometimes, when our miracles are not coming our way the way we would like it, then this might be time for us to climb higher. That might be a good time for us to rejuvenate ourselves, renew our minds, renew our hearts and our lives, and go back to God and climb higher and higher in the Lord. And if we go higher in God, then things will begin to happen to us, my friends.

Speaker 3:

So it was with Habakkuk. He climbed the prayer tower and saw that the righteous trust in God and they were doing well. But I got to tell you this one more time. I said Habakkuk climbed the prayer tower and saw that the righteous trusted in God and they were doing well, my friends. Oh, that is so true. And they were doing well, my friends. Oh, that is so true when we put our trust in the Lord, the Bible. The Bible tells us that we must trust in the Lord with all our hearts and we must not lean on our own understanding, but in all our ways we must acknowledge God, and God will direct our path. So he saw the righteous how they are trusted in God and they were doing very well.

Speaker 3:

Now this involves taking God into the midst of our needs. It involves that when we are righteous and we are serving God, we have to include God in everything that we are doing. So it involves taking God into the midst of our needs and asking him to employ his power on our behalf, because without him, oh, I can do nothing. Without him, I sure would fail. Without God, all of us would be drifting like a ship without a sail. Yes, prayer is giving him permission to help as his love, power and wisdom directs. I said, prayer is giving God permission to help as his love, power and wisdom directs us. That's why we pray, my friends, this involves trusting God.

Speaker 3:

So Habakkuk said, in effect I am going to get out of my distress. You do not have to stay in that same condition that you are in Day after day, time after time, year after year. No, my friends, you have the power of God vested in you and therefore you can have that determination in your heart and in your life that you are going to get out of your distress and tell yourself tomorrow ought to be a better day, tomorrow is going to be a better day. I'm going up to my watchtower. I am going to leave everything in God's hand. I'm going to cast all my cares upon him. That's what the Bible tells us to do. To cast all my cares upon him. That's what the Bible tells us to do. Cast all your cares upon him because he cares for you, my friends. Oh, cast my life, cast my loved ones, my today, cast my tomorrow, cast in everything in God's hand. Cast all my cares upon him, everything that troubles me. So I cast everything in God's hand. Cast all my cares upon him, everything that troubles me. So I cast everything in his hands. Let us mark the promise. Let us look at the promise that he had.

Speaker 3:

Habakkuk said in chapter 3 and verse 16. My body trembled, my lips quivered at the voice, rottenness entered my bones, but he did not go down in despair, so he went up in delight. That's a powerful thing I said, in spite of the strains of your struggles, in spite of all the problems that you may encounter. He said that my body trembled, my lips quivered at the voiceness into my bones, but he did not go down in despair, no, he went up in delight. Because you see, my friends, if we delight ourselves in the Lord, our God, the Bible says that God will give us the desires of our hearts.

Speaker 3:

Glory to his name, because prayer works. It turns barriers into bridges, it turns pessimism into triumph. That's what prayer does. So he said that I might rest in the day of trouble. He saw, without a doubt, that the God who acted in the past was the same God who would act in the presence. And that is so true because God cannot change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. While all may change, everything around us seemingly is changing, glory to God. He remains the same.

Speaker 3:

So what happens when there are no miracles? Our Lord, who is ever present, never failing and all sufficient? The Bible says he is with us. When nothing seemingly is happening, god is still with us. Our God is equal to every situation. So remember, with or without miracles, jesus wins. With or without miracles, jesus is with us. David said even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil because God is with me. Glory to his name. My friends, we thank you so much for joining us today. Trust, something was said that will bless your heart and that will revive your soul.

Speaker 2:

Praise the Lord, praise the, the lord. That was indeed a powerful word. What do you do when there is no miracle? Do you give up on god or do you still trust him? I would encourage you to keep on trusting the lord, because his timing is not your timing. So if you're waiting for a miracle from the lord, he will will do it, but it will be done in his own time.

Speaker 3:

Amen, amen and amen. You know, my friends, we never bring our broadcast to a close without giving you an opportunity to make Jesus the Lord of your life. In today's case, if nothing is happening in your life, if there are no miracles in your life today, oh, I am here to tell you. You must keep on praying, keep on trusting, and if you keep on praying and trusting, sooner or later your miracle will come, because God is with you, because God is with us. He said he will never leave us, nor will he ever forsake us. Knowing this, my, my friends, you can trust on him, you can depend upon him and your miracles will come. Father, we thank you and we praise you. We exalt your holy name, thank you for your words, which has gone forth to this. Speak to us.
